The GHG quota: an easy way for EV drivers to earn

The greenhouse gas (GHG) quota – in German THG-Quote – rewards EV owners in Germany with a yearly premium. Here's the short version.

What is the GHG quota?

Oil companies have to reduce CO2 emissions by law. They can do that by selling more renewable fuels – or by buying reductions from EV owners. Your EV's electricity counts as a reduction, which can be sold once a year.

How much can you earn?

In 2024/25 the premium ranged roughly between €70 and €250 per year per EV, depending on market prices and the provider.

What do you need?

  • An EV registered in Germany (passenger car)
  • A copy of the vehicle registration
  • A trusted GHG quota provider
